Week 3, Day 2

Man this month long, sacrifice whilst denying the addiction, Facebook fast is no joke. As if I needed to be reminded of how human I actually am. Week 3 – Day 2, before the day ended, I messed up. You can be certain, God prodded me to extend the fast and give Him back the days on which I was not able to hold out. Of course, Him being my Lord and Savior, I must concede. (**squirming and taking a deep sigh and praying for more grace and mercy**).

The fact that it is week 3 and I am still struggling with this social media fasting and whilst denying the addiction to Facebook, prove how necessary this sacrifice was. Clearly, Facebook became an idol in my life and was taking away precious time and focus from God. 1 Corinthians 10, clearly states that God demands that we put away idolatry and whilst I do not live in biblical times, I still fear being ‘biblically’ punished; fire, brimstone, lightening and whatnot.

I do endeavor to “…press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before…” Philippians 3:13.This is my primary objective for 2014. With God’s help, I will get it fully and by year’s end I shall have a good report. According to Chip Ingram this morning, “many start well, but few finish well.”

Apart from having more devotion time, another good thing which has come from committing to this fast, is that my sister has decided to start a social media fasting of her own. Georgia contacted me to ask for certain guidelines as to whether it was a full social media fast, a fast from Whatsapp or just Facebook. I advised her that on my part it was only Facebook as that was my downfall. But if you decide to do this type of fasting, you should give up those things which hamper you; that might be twitter, Facebook, BBM or even texting on your phone. If the first and last thing you reach for in the mornings and at night is your smartphone, you need to check yourself.

So wish me luck, keep me in your prayers and if you don’t mind; you can share your experiences and encouragement with me about your own personal challenges.
