Morning Meditation: Changing Besetting Habits

The $10 Challenge

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” – John 8:34

“I hate being late,” my friend lamented. “It has been a problem for me all my life.”

“Do you really want to change that?” I asked.

“Yes, I do.”

“All right. Every time you are late to work or anywhere else where you have committed to be at a particular time you must give me $25.”

“No way!” my friend responded. “I would go broke! But I will do $10.”

“All right, $10 it is. It has to be a large enough amount of money for it to hurt your pocketbook.”

“Believe me, that will hurt,” my friend said. About a month later my friend found great motivation to be on time to every place she had to be. In the first week, I got only $10 from my friend. The next week, $20. The third week, nothing. By the fifth week, my friend had changed a lifelong habit that had hindered her all her life. In order for my friend not to be resentful of me for the money she had to give, we put it in a jar to be given to some other Christian cause. This ensured my motive was only for her best interest.

Some might be reading this now and say it is legalism. For my friend it was freedom. For the first time she had some means of changing a behavior that had caused her problems in relationships and her own work habits. Psychologists tell us that it takes 21 days to form a habit. So, if you need to change some habit, you need to be actively engaged in that new behavior at least 21 days. My friend needed help to change a habit she didn’t like about herself. It took another individual to hold her accountable, and it took a potential loss of something to provide the added incentive.

Morning Meditation: God’s Word has not changed on Homosexuality.

Standard

God’s Word has not changed.

If 10,000 pastors declared they were #gay tomorrow, it would not change the truth of the #Bible one iota. If 10,000 worship leaders declared that God had made them gay, it would not change a single scriptural truth.

As I have emphasized repeatedly, despite the increasing number of professing “gay Christians”–-by which I mean those who claim that you can follow Jesus and practice homosexuality at the same time–there are “no new textual, archaeological, sociological, anthropological or philological discoveries [that] have been made in the last 50 years that would cause us to read any of these biblical texts differently.”

And so, once more, we see the fundamental error of “gay Christianity,” namely, people interpreting the Bible through the lens of their sexuality rather than interpreting their sexuality through the lens of the Bible….

Morning Meditation: Importance of understanding Spiritual Warfare

Standard

Spiritual Warfare

Over the past several decades we have watched as good, upstanding leaders in our churches have been destroyed by Satan’s strongholds in their lives. It appears to me that many of today’s Christians do not realize the importance of spiritual warfare, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12) We must take a stand against it and carry out the teachings from God’s Word, for without Jesus and His power we are nothing. Left to our own devices, we shall perish, and this world’s time is very short.

Morning Meditation: How to Know Satan’s Tactics and Overcome

Standard

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. —Revelation 12:11

If we are going to do spiritual warfare, then we need to know Satan’s tactics in order to overcome them. Satan is out to deceive. Revelation 12:9 describes him as “that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world” (KJV).

How does he set about his deception? In 2 Corinthians 11:14, Satan is called “an angel of light,” which means that he uses apparently respectable means and people to deceive us. He tries to lure us away from the truth and towards the counterfeit. Paul says: “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him” (2 Cor. 11:4, KJV).

Satan is out to demoralize: “Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night” (Rev. 12:10, KJV).

How does Satan accuse? Sometimes he tells us that we are not saved. Or if he can’t succeed with that, he tries to convince us that God has finished with us and that we are irreparably out of His will. Nothing is more demoralizing to a Christian than this. But let me give you a rule of thumb here: all oppression is of the devil.

Another method of accusing and demoralizing us is to tell us that we are not fit to worship God as we are. The devil reminds us of some weakness or failing in our life, and he says, “You must get that right before you can worship God. You’re not in a fit state to do anything.” He tries to get in during the week, and if he fails there, he tries on Sunday morning. If we lose our temper or give in to some other weakness, he says to us, “You see, you’re not fit.” But God never says that.

So what are we to do in the face of Satan’s strategies? The answer is that we must refuse to give place to him. We must realize that Satan’s strategy is aimed to produce one thing—a grieved Holy Spirit. That is all he wants. And if he achieves that, then he has won.

Morning Meditation: It is the Holy Spirit’s responsibility as our guide to convict us

Standard

“When He comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” John 16:8

I had recently come back from a mountaintop experience. As I attempted to get back into my routine, I found a great cloud of oppression come over me. Each day I attempted to press through it, but with no success. Fear, anxiety, doubt, and unbelief were setting in. I knew I was fretting over my future. I had been in a long period of transition in my work life and was tired of the place of waiting. Yet I didn’t understand the oppression. It was definitely spiritual warfare. That night I was reading a book regarding our calling from God. The author made mention that we can become envious of others when we get into a place where we are dissatisfied. Suddenly, I realized I was guilty of envying where other workplace believers were in their lives. I was “subconsciously” angry that the calling God had placed on my life had such adversity. I had to repent.

As if this were not enough, the next day the Holy Spirit confirmed my assessment in the most unusual way. That morning I turned on my computer to read my own Workplace Meditation that is sent to my computer. The message was on “Envying Others” and included the same Scripture reference as the author’s in the book. Imagine God using my own words to convict me of sin! The nerve of Him! To make matters worse, at lunchtime I tuned into the local Christian radio station to hear an interview with the same author as he cited the very passage I had read the day before. I was shocked to realize how the Holy Spirit could be so precise in His ability to convict and give proof of His activity in my life.

Do you question if the Holy Spirit is active in your life? The Lord has promised that the Holy Spirit will convict us of sin when we move away from Him. It is His responsibility as our guide.

The Life of a 21st Century Prophet: Jamaican Churches blindly cloaked in Deception and Disobedience

The Life of a 21st Century Prophet

This is what the Lord says:

The people of our generation have yet to come to understand, the full extent of the devil’s deception. We live and go about our business like blind rats; woefully ignorant of the realm of deceit in which we exist daily. This is to our detriment and God is merciful to point out the deceit and implore us to come higher in Him. He alone can deliver us out of the this dimension and usher us into a dimension where we see the ploys of the enemy in the spiritual. Amen.

Jamaican Churches Blind

One evening, I spent sometime in a church that was woefully deceived. There were several things which happened that I was asking God about and that He was pointing out to me.

First, when I arrived the worship team were singing songs, but no one was standing or worshipping. There was barely any sign on the Richter scale for their praise. I came in and did as my spirit was free to do, worship.

Secondly, the pastor asked for members to shift to fill the seats at the front as the back was filling up, but not the front. No one moved. I wanted to go up to the front, but as I had already learned this place was a bit odd as earlier no one stood for the hymn as I was accustomed to nor did anyone indicate to me why…not until I felt odd, sat and asked an usher what was the procedure. Then she explained they only stood for the last verse.

A little after this mass dis-obedience, God started to give me a message. It is hard to deny His words when He wants you to convey it. So after about 15 minutes of trying to focus on the service. I went out and captured the message that God was pouring into my spirit. You can say he was not amused about such a blatant act of ‘disobedience’ being allowed. I did what he required.

Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

If we give an inch to the devil, he will take the entire church.

If we allow demonic spirits to remain in our presence, they will block our praises and prayers from God.

In this instance, the spirit of Disobedience was ignored and as such had the permission to remain in that place.

Thirdly, the Lord was not in the shaking. At some point the preacher had riled up every one with his ‘raspy, bellowing antics’ that all were carrying on as if there was a great outpouring of anointing.

God said he was not in it.

Remember Elijah’s experience:

1 Kings 19:11-13 (KJV)

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

This minster had riled up everyone so much in that they manifested tongues and dancing

praise dance

praise dance

and shaking, out of the flesh.

I have seen this so many times, I would be at a loss to count. Ministers and preachers in Jamaica, start to ‘act up’ and scream and rasp their voices in hopes to rile the congregation. But God is not impressed or amused with this and everyone who does it, will have to account to Him for it.

It is my practice that I never move unless I feel the unction or anointing of God. Flesh must be slain for spiritual manifestations of God to occur.

What will the people remember after they have had a great time in the flesh?

Nothing.

What change will occur in their spirit?

Nothing.

How will their home lives change?

In no way.

How will they act differently towards their coworkers?

In no way different.

The Last thing occurred when I was about to leave for the night. I made it as far to my car and rested my things before the Holy Spirit took me over. I had to grip the car for support as my spirit was fast and furious dialogue with God.

I could go nowhere. God said to go back in.

When I went in they were doing a prayer and I held the woman’s hand beside me to pray with and for her. While doing so, God started to speak to me and show me that the atmosphere and people was so bound up, that even I could not communicate with Him like I normally do.

While in the parking lot, my spirit was free, the communication with God was easy; but inside the church, the worship was forced, the manifestations a smokescreen and God was not in it.

The devil so easily deceives us that we see manifestations in the church and think it is business as usual. Our spirits are not alerted and we are spectators to the happenings at the altar. We do the church dance when our flesh gets excited and we wipe the sweat off our brow when we have exerted ourselves to exhaustion.

Woe to us a blind and deceived nation.

God is calling us to a different level

God is calling us to a dimension where our spiritual eyes are open and we know the presence of God.

God is calling forth his servants to spiritual warfare, to guard our military strongholds.

God is calling us to a season where we are truly equipped to handle this version of the devil’s warfare tactics.

Till then, our churches in Jamaica will be wilfully disobedient and deceived.

The Life of a 21st Century Prophet: Are You A Threat to the devil?

The Life of a 21st Century Prophet

Are You A Threat to the devil?

When the devil sees you as a threat, he begins to throw his arsenal at you; When you start to make an impact and a positive difference for God and in the World, he starts to stress you.

For the bible says:

Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The devil will send terrors, arrows, and people at you. Your friends will become your enemies, your coworkers will tear you down and your family will forsake you. All you held dear will be as sinking sand and your life will seem as if it is in the eye of a tornado.

There is Hope

But God is God Almighty and I declare no weapon that is formed against me or you shall prosper. You should say, I stand in the authority of Jesus Christ, and if you have to stand against 10,000 in the darkness, with Christ you are like 10,000,000. Its spiritual warfare.

Day 100 – Spiritual Exhaustion and why we need the power of Fasting

Standard

Featured Image -- 1148God has a way of making a thing known to His servants. How he chooses to, will definitely vary.

My bones and muscles were devoid of purposeful energy today. I feel a slight presence of exhaustion permeating from every limb even to the night hour. Before my eyes opened, to see the new dawn, this morn, I knew my excursions to neighbouring churches had taken a toll. I doubt it is so much what I did in the physical, as it is what I have been doing in the spiritual.

I am a new woman and purpose-filled and purpose driven. My days of ‘spectating’ at church services are done. Now, I am actively scaling valleys, climbing mountains interceding and fighting the adversary on behalf of others on a regular basis; all in the spirit realm. This is an exhausting feat on the human body. If I hope to continue and have an effective ministry, I must apply the principles of God to endure the race.

From now on, it is not business as usual but I am certain it will be diet-interrupted. Fasting. There is a reason why fasting was introduced; this was so that the flesh would be weakened and the spirit, spirituality and communication of man to God, strengthened. This is what is required for a fully engaged spirit life.

The bible is rife with examples of men and women who sought God’s counsel and used the powerful tool of spiritual warfare, that of prayer and fasting.

Moses Fasted Before Receiving the Commandments – Deuteronomy 9:9-18

  • Moses fasted for 40 days when he went up to the mountain to receive the commandments. When he came down and broke the commandments because the people sinned, he went back up and fasted 40 more days.

Elijah Fasted While Escaping Jezebel – 1 Kings 19:4-8

  • Elijah after his confrontation and victory over Jezebel’s false prophets, was fed by an angel twice and then he journeyed to Mount Horeb for 40 days without food.

Esther Fasted for the Safety of the Jews – Esther 4:15-17

  • When the entire Jewish race was threatened by genocide, Queen Esther fasted before approaching the King and asking for his help in saving the Jewish people.

Darius Fasted For the Safety of Daniel – Daniel 6:18-23

  • When Daniel was accused of breaking King Darius’ law and was throne into the lion’s den; the king himself did not sup that night and fasted until he was assured of Daniel’s safety the next day.

Daniel Fasted for an Answer to Prayer – Daniel 10:1-3

  • Daniel fasted many times, especially in seeking an answer from God, for the visions he saw. He received a direct answer via the Angel Gabriel.

Jesus Fasted before He commenced His ministry – Matthew 4:1-2

  • Before the devil approached Jesus, He fasted for 40 days in the desert. After which he begun His ministry here on earth.

Apart from seeking spiritual strength, power and authority; there are many more reasons for fasting.

Here are a few reasons why people fasted in the bible, courtesy of Rock Church:

  • In times of war: The Benjamites fasted and defeated the other Israelites. Judges 20:26
  • Repentance: The King of Nineveh ordered the whole city to fast and repent. Consequently, they were forgiven of their sin. Jonah 3:5
  • When facing danger: Ezra fasted as he prayed for wisdom and protection when he prepared the people to return to Jerusalem from Babylon. Ezra 8:21, 23
  • Courage and Wisdom: Esther and the Jews of Shushan fasted when faced with their destruction planned by Haman. Esther 4:3,16; 9:31
  • In times of grief: A seven-day fast was held when the bones of Saul and his sons were buried. 1 Samuel 31:13; 1 Chronicles 10:12
  • In times of distress: David fasted after hearing that Saul and Jonathan were dead. 2 Samuel 1:12
  • Ultimate denial of the flesh: Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights before being tempted by Satan. Matthew 4:2
  • Spiritual Power: Jesus said this kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting. Mark 9:29
  • Wisdom: Paul and Barnabas prayed and fasted at the appointment of elders for the churches. Acts 14:23
  • Set aside self for holiness: Paul suggested that husbands and wives abstain from sexual relations to give themselves to fasting and prayer. 1 Corinthians 7:5
  • Answered prayer: Cornelius fasted four days, after which time an angel appeared to him. Consequently, he and his family received the gospel and were baptized. Acts 10:30-31
  • Mourning: During his time of mourning, Daniel fasted three weeks, after which time he received a vision. Daniel 10:1-3
  • Special revelation: Moses fasted for 40 days and received the law. Exodus 34:27-28
  • Spiritual Recuperation: Elijah fasted 40 days after killing prophets of Baal. 1 Kings 19:1-9

So with this new knowledge, I am sure like me, you will embark on a new journey and understanding of what is required of us and also what is given to us; to help us endure as God’s  children and servants here on earth.
